Alex runs a selection of highly popular Underwater Photography Workshops at the world’s best diving destinations each year. His workshops are more than just photography courses — they’re vibrant gatherings of like-minded enthusiasts brought together by a shared passion for capturing the wonders of the underwater world. Alex has run more than 150 underwater photography workshops around the world and is known for always putting the work in, so his workshops are always as productive as possible. Alex carefully chooses the best dive operations, the right naturalist guides and uses his marine ecology background to select the exact season and time in the lunar cycle for each of workshop. Alex wants you to create stunning imagery, learning not just from him, but also benefitting from the camaraderie and knowledge of a friendly, sharing group. These are some of the reasons why his workshops are consistently oversubscribed, typically within hours of being released.
Given their popularity, to give everyone an equal chance to book, events are announced and opened for bookings via an announcement in his newsletter that is sent to everyone simultaneously (sign up at the bottom of this page). There is no minimum camera requirement for Alex’s workshops, although they are aimed at enthusiastic underwater photographers who want to make the most of their time in the field. Alex does not always announce workshops in chronological order. Alex says “I book resorts and liveaboards many years in advance to ensure I am in the best places, with the best operators at the best time. But since I am confident that my trips will fill, I do not need to launch these trips until closer to the time. I try to launch my trips at sensible time before they will run. For the biggest trips this maybe more than 18 months in advance, while annual workshops often launch about 10 months in advance. My workshops are popular and usually fill shortly after I send out the announcement in my newsletter. If there is a trip you really fancy, it is really worth contacting the travel agent and getting on the waiting list, spaces do open up when people have to cancel. All my liveaboard workshops are full boat charters, but I usually run the boat below its normal capacity, for a superior experience both on board and underwater.”
