Underwater Photography Reboot: Always Learning
In underwater photography there is always something to learn, a way to improve. It one of the reasons we love it and it is why once we’re able to take good shots, we keep striving for great ones.
Always Learning is a new talk by Alex Mustard that dives into the details of technique, underpinned by the philosophy that there isn’t simply one best method for wide angle and one technique for macro. It is a talk to inspire and to illustrate what goes into getting the most from opportunities and what it takes to go beyond a decent shot to get something special.
This presentation builds on the photographic fundamentals laid out in the Reboot course, going into detail on how to optimize all aspects of your approach: your settings, gear, photographic technique and diving choices to create those truly outstanding images. Underwater Photography Reboot is Alex’s comprehensive online underwater photography course, with over 8 hours of presentations and is available for £95 GBP for a subscription running until the end of 2028. Alex says, “when I teach workshops in the field, my advice is often dominated with the details that will really make a difference with this subject in these conditions. However, these insights are rarely shared in books or articles, which need to have a broad perspective and appeal. This talk is a chance to dive into that detail. I plan to run through a lots of real world examples, sharing plenty of specific tips, but also revealing the philosophy of optimization that turns a competent shooter into an award winner. The presentation will be illustrated with both my own recent photography and a collection of images from those who joined the 12 photo workshops I ran in 2025.
