8-15th November 2026. FULLY BOOKED.
This is the second of two workshops Alex is running in November 2026, both based on the same teaching and itinerary.
The trips are organised by Scuba Travel, contact Caroline for bookings caroline@scubatravel.com
Galapagos is the ultimate diving bucket-list destination. Home to arguably the greatest density and diversity of big animals that you can see underwater anywhere. To quote Simon Rogerson, editor of Scuba Magazine in a recent article about Galapagos Sky, “Hammerheads, mantas, dolphins, whale sharks: the pelagic A-listers are all regulars at the Galapagos buffet, and the rest of the guest list can be just as impressive. The parade of fish exceeds that of any other diving destination I have visited.” In summary Galapagos amazes even the mostly widely travelled divers – it is an unmissable destination.

Alex adds “Every Galapagos trip is an adventure. It is an incredible place and each week there is a little different, but always blows your socks off! And although both weeks will follow the same itinerary, I’d expect them to serve up different thrills. Galapagos is famous for sharks, especially hammerheads, Galapagos sharks and whale sharks in abundance. But turtles, eaglerays, sea lions, fur seals and even mantas can steal the show on any particular week. The different locations on the route really serve up different photographic treats, for example the cooler water dives bring Mola mola, iguanas and the endemic red-lipped batfish. It is really like 3 or 4 destinations in one, but all the dives are united in serving up big fish in large numbers. And the itinerary also offers a couple of land excursions to just fill out your portfolio further.”

In addition to being known as the sharkiest place in the oceans, Galapagos is also loved by photographers as realm of diving dinosaurs, in the shape of the marine iguanas, which can be photographed feeding on algae underwater in the shallows at specific sites. This is a must do experience mid-morning when the iguanas have warmed up and waves of them launch into the water in large numbers. It is even possible to see penguins and flightless cormorants on these dives.

It is important to state that Galapagos is not a destination for beginner divers. The conditions can be tough. At times the water can be warm and benign, at others it is very cold (the penguins are a clue), the visibility mixed and currents are often strong and swirling. Galapagos Sky requires all divers to be Nitrox certified to dive at the remote Wolf and Darwin Islands. Do consider carefully if this trip is right for you before booking a place.

The workshop will be on the highly rated Galapagos Sky liveaboard, Alex says “please note that unlike my normal workshops, where we have total control of the itinerary, in Galapagos, even when you charter the whole boat, the itinerary is fixed and agreed well ahead of time with the National Park. The expected itinerary is this.” Although this workshop is based on a 7 day itinerary, Galapagos Sky currently spends 3 whole days at the legendary Darwin and Wolf area, the place where anything can show up and usually does!

“Galapagos is an amazing, but challenging destination for underwater photography. Fantastic subject matter is everywhere, but conditions are unpredictable and changeable,” says Alex. “As I result I have found that this is a perfect destination to run a workshop more focused on post processing, especially focusing on the latest tools available in image software. Of course we will cover underwater photography techniques, but the workshop will spend more time on processing. We’ll start with the basics and build up to more advanced techniques that really suit underwater images. This is not a generic Lightroom course, but one totally focused on improving your underwater images and dealing with the subject matter and conditions in Galapagos.”
