A British pundit light (a mobile trailer with generator, transformer and electronic flashing latern) used to identify airfields during the Second World War, with a distinct series of flashes. There is a second pundit light on the left of the picture, mostly out of frame. These lights are regularly mis-identified as armoured Rolls Royce cars in several books and many magazine articles about the wreck.
Photographed in the port side of the upper level of hold 2. Wreck of the Thistlegorm, sunk on 6th October 1941, Sha'ab Ali, Sinai, Egypt. Gulf of Suez, Red Sea.
