Juvenile Zebra Sharks In Captivity, Indonesia
Zebra shark (Stegostoma varium) juveniles being raised in captivity, prior to release. Note that the growth rates show them doubling in length from week 2 to week 7 and increasing in biomass 4 times in the same period. Misool, Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia. Ceram Sea. Tropical West Pacific Ocean.
The Re-Shark project takes eggs of leopard/zebra sharls laid in public aquariums and transports them to wild areas with depleted populations. The young sharks are hatched and raised until they are big enough to release.
