A male sergeant major (Abudefduf saxatilis) stands guard of his nest on the wreck of the Kittiwake. The male is showing his dark mating colouration here and his characteristic purple eggs are visible behind him. The males guard the eggs for about 1 week, while the females go off and feed to build up the energy to lay the next batch. Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, British West Indies.
