A black hamlet (Hypoplectrus nigricans) and a yellowbelly hamlet (Hypoplectrus aberrans) spawn at dusk. In this photo the black hamlet is acting as a male and the yellowbelly the female. Hamlets species are very recently evolved and hybridisation is possible and works against speciation. Hamlets are one of the few vertebrate species that are true hermaphrodites, here the fish in the foreground is acting as a male, but this pair spawned again minutes later with the roles reversed.
