The smaller male ornate ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus) turns belly to belly with the larger female ghost pipefish and fertilises the eggs in her brood pouch (between her large pelvic fins). Unlike the rest of the seahorses, pipefish and seadragons, it is the female ghost pipefish that carry the eggs after fertilisation.
