A yellow warty frogfish (Antennarius maculatus) is arguably the perfect reef ambush predator. Frogfish have amazing camouflage, aggressively mimicking sponges even to the point of having dark circular false sponge-siphons on their bodies. Frogfish come in a variety of colours and can change colour in a couple of weeks, if required, to match a particular host sponge. Their first dorsal fin spine is modified into a fishing lure, which they waggle to attract prey. Frogfish strike even faster even than the stonefish – just 6 milliseconds.
