A colony of symmetrical brain coral (Diploria strigosa) preparing to spawn at night in late summer. This photo shows the bundles of eggs and sperm within the polyps of the brain coral, prior to their synchronous release. Note that there is a tiny triplefin (Enneanectes sp.) sheltering on the coral at the bottom of the frame. East End, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, British West Indies. Caribbean Sea.
