A male great star coral (Montastrea cavernosa) releases clouds of sperm into the water column, during its synchronised annual spawning event, several hours after sunset in late summer. Unlike many other coral species, great star coral is not a hermaphrodite and has seperate sex colonies. East End, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, British West Indies. Caribbean Sea.
