SUMMARY:Cayman Summer Workshop 2026
DESCRIPTION:1st-8th August 2026. Bookings for this workshop are direct with Ocean Frontiers\, please contact Carol: reservations@oceanfrontiers.com for bookings and any further information. FULLY BOOKED. \n“I am heading back to Cayman in August 2026 to run my popular controlling light workshop. The controlling light workshop is the best wide angle workshop I run. Through the week-long course we deconstruct the process of shooting wide angle photography\, allowing you to understand and optimise each element\, leaving you perfectly placed to shoot stunning wide angle pictures of any subject. Grand Cayman offers really diverse diving and we make use of this variety to focus on different skills and techniques. The benign diving conditions and excellent visibility\, combined with the quality operation run by Ocean Frontiers\, allows us to pack a huge amount into this workshop week\, sending you home packed with knowledge\, but also with a diverse mix of wide angle pictures of walls\, reefs\, caverns\, wrecks\, stingrays\, sharks\, turtles and hopefully lots of silversides – a speciality that can be served up by Cayman in the summer.” \nYou can read a detailed introduction to all of Alex’s Cayman Workshops here. \n \nOcean Frontiers is once again hosting Cayman Digital Madness\, at Compass Point Dive Resort\, their long-running underwater photography workshop with Alex Mustard. Be sure to book now to join a workshop jammed with specialized diving tailored for enthusiastic underwater photographers and a workshop under the expert guidance of Alex Mustard.“I am excited to launch my first summer Cayman workshop for 3 years\, which I hope brings us good encounters with summer silversides. Silverside blooms cannot be predicted or guaranteed\, but the timing of this trip is my best guess for catching them. The last big bloom at the East End was at Ironshore Gardens in summer 2024\, so fingers crossed. But with Ocean Frontiers’ fast boats we have the ability to catch the silversides wherever they show up on Cayman (or Little Cayman\, weather allowing for the crossing).” \n\n\nTHE WORKSHOP AND THE DIVING\n\nAlex says\, “this wide angle photography class is themed on Understanding and Mastering Light Underwater. The workshop is dominated by my favourite photogenic dive sites\, with every trip out being fully focused on photography. The workshop aims to reconstruct the way you shoot wide angle\, both from technical and artistic point of view\, while you enjoy great dives\, shooting reef walls\, coral caverns\, colourful sponges and impressive corals\, the Kittiwake wreck\, stingrays\, reef sharks\, turtles and much more. Although\, if the silversides are in residence\, we will devote plenty of our attention to them. Two of the days include three-tank trips\, giving the chance to roam further\, such as visiting the Kittiwake wrecks\, and even to Little Cayman\, which we’ve managed during my workshops in 2022\, 2023\, 2025 and already in 2026 (I didn’t run a workshop in 2024). But do note that going to Little Cayman is weather dependent.” \n \n\nAlex continues “I do not teach underwater photography by just telling you what to do. Of course\, I will always explain ‘How to get the shot’\, but I want you to understand Why you need to apply that technique in that way to get the killer image. I want you to leave my workshop with a collection of great images and also as a more knowledgeable and better underwater photographer. I want you to understand what goes into stunning shots\, so that you can take them on dives\, whether I am there to help you on your next trip or not. That is the aim of this workshop\, we go into detail and deconstruct and rebuild your approach to wide angle photography. These are core skills in underwater photography and many photographers return to this workshop time and again for the great photographic diving and to keep polishing up their core technique.” \n \nAlex adds “Digital Madness definitely puts the work into workshop! I plan a busy schedule to really make the most of the whole week to make it as productive as possible. But while I take the photography seriously\, I don’t take myself too seriously. So we’re busy\, but it is always fun. Nothing is compulsory too\, so if you want to skip a dive or talk to have some vacation-time\, that is fine. There is also no competition element to the week\, which everyone always says helps promote a friendly and sharing atmosphere\, and many images from this workshop have gone on to pick up awards in international underwater photography contests. I hope that you can join me (and hopefully lots of silversides) in Cayman.” \n \nTHE PACKAGE \nDates: Saturday 1-8th August 2026.  \nWorkshop includes 7 nights accommodation at the luxurious Compass Point Dive Resort. Enjoy the luxury of rolling out of bed and onto the dive boat! \nAll rooms are Condo style\, with kitchen\, living room and washing machine/dryer. The two bedroom units have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a large shared communal area. You can see the rooms in detail on the Compass Point website. \n6 days of action packed diving with Alex Mustard and Ocean Frontiers\, almost every dive trip we make is exclusive to this workshop in some way \nGroup Size: Limit 14 Photographers plus Alex Mustard \nPresentations\, image review sessions\, 1:1 teaching in the pool; and pre-dive tips & local knowledge from Alex. Nitrox for whole trip \nBreakfasts all week at Eagle Rays (takeaway easy). Lunches on the 3-tank days. SUMMARY:Summer Red Sea Workshop\, 2026 Week 2
DESCRIPTION:29th June – 6th July 2026 – Workshop Week 2. FULLY BOOKED. \nThis is the second of two back to back workshops\, with the same planned itinerary and teaching. \nContact Caroline@scubatravel.com for more info and waiting list notifications. \n \nFor more that 20 years Alex’s classic summer Red Sea Workshop\, organised by Scuba Travel\, has a must-do status in the underwater photography community. It is a week of intensive underwater photography in the Red Sea taking in vibrant Red Sea reefs\, world class ship wrecks and importantly\, also timed to catch gatherings of great schools of fish in the Ras Mohammed National Park\, all with expert insight\, knowledge and tutorage from Alex. \n \n“I have taught 35 Red Sea workshop weeks and I keep going back because the diving is so productive for images and the varied subject matter is ideal for teaching many of the different nuances required to excel in wide angle photography\,” says Alex. “I hope you will join me in 2026. This is workshop that gets you lots of time in the best spots at the best times and with the underwater freedom needed to create stunning images. Many Red Sea liveaboard trips will give you around 15-20 dives\, we usually do between 23-26 – all in daylight – giving you so much more opportunity to create stunning shots.” \nAlex says “I run this trip because the diving is ideal for teaching underwater photography and because we just get so much quality photography packed into each day\, no other trip is as productive. It is really diverse too\, with the wide mix of subjects and the lessons that they teach us. And despite travel getting more expensive\, Egypt still offers very strong value for money. Lots of people choose this to be their first trip with me\, while many others return year after year because the trip produces so many different images.” \n \n  \nOur base will be the year-old boat Ghazala Adventure\, which is a standard-setting\, large\, luxurious liveaboard and truly an upgrade even from the impressive Ghazala Explorer that we’ve used in the Red Sea for the last few years. “I actually used both boats in 2025 and I have no doubt that Adventure is a step up in every area and simply makes this workshop even better\,” says Alex. “Yes\, this is the boat that we had a permission issue with in June 2025\, but that was a one-off and she’s now operating normally. The crew and guides will be familiar faces to many of you\, as Caroline and Reda from Scuba Travel hand pick the team for these workshops. Ghazala Adventure is steel-hulled and very stable compared with the typical wooden Red Sea boats\, Ocean Tribe take safety incredibly seriously both in terms of the vessels safety systems and the crew’s training. Ghazala Adventure is fast too\, meaning we arrive everywhere early and the boat has four compressors meaning tanks and filled and ready\, part of what allows us to squeeze in more dives than others and run open deck periods when we’re on site for the day. The boat also has a very spacious saloon area\, perfect for talks\, post processing and camera fettling – there is plenty of space throughout the boat (including the snug upstairs) for all the group and all our gear! But the standout feature for me is the crew\, who work so hard to make these workshops special.” This workshop is limited to 21 photographers\, although the boat can actually take 26 divers\, in 14 cabins. \n \nPlease note that there are two weeks available. The diving and teaching is intended to be the same each week\, although the weeks will always vary a little with conditions and how the dive sites are performing photographically. “We initially open these trips up for people to book just one week\, to give more people a chance to get places on this popular workshop\,” says Alex. “But if there are cancellations etc – then I am happy for people to ask to join the other week. The teaching content focuses on the subjects we are shooting (wreck externals\, wreck internals\, schooling fish\, reefs scenery\, split levels and fish photography and hopefully dolphins)\, although it always varies depending on the dives we do\, the interests of the group and the questions that are asked.” \n \n  \nVITALS \nDates: Workshop Week 2: 29th June – 6th 2026 \nThe price is from £2250 GBP\, which includes Easyjet flights from/to London\, Ghazala Adventure accommodation (based on shared cabin)\, full board (not alcohol)\, diving\, Nitrox\, workshop\, Marine Park Fees\, transfers in Hurghada (if you are on the included flights – note Easyjet have a generous baggage policy if you select the correct options). \nThe trip can also be booked without flights and airport transfers from £2000 GBP. \nIf arranging your own flights please book flights to Hurghada that synchronise with the main group (check with Caroline)\, the liveaboard will not depart late or return to port early to fit with any other flight times (embarkation is from 18:00\, although the group on the official flights will arrive around 21:00; we will be back in port for the final night\, with last dives around Sunday 2pm). Extras include: larger 15lt tanks\, visas\, alcohol\, hotel day room on final day. \nThese trips have traditionally included day room use on the final day\, but with many people making their own flight arrangements (and either not needing a room or needing a full night in the hotel) we now offer this as an option\, which can be booked as either a shared or a single room (approx £75-100 GBP). It is not an option to stay on the boat as she needs to be turned around for the next group. \nGhazala Adventure has standard lower deck cabins\, as well as options for upper deck twin cabins (£100 GBP extra pp)\, upper deck suites (double bed\, £150 GBP extra pp) and lower deck suite (double bed\, £150 GBP extra pp). Very limited single cabin occupancy is available (£1200 GBP extra) because we are running under capacity. All cabin options are on a first come\, first served basis\, when reserving your place on the workshop. Alex gets whatever cabin space remains! \n \nBOOKING \nFor further questions and for reservations please contact Scuba Travel. Email is the way to go. Contact Caroline@scubatravel.com. A non-refundable deposit of £700 GBP is required to secure your place. \nCaroline says “We strongly advise you take out trip insurance at the time of paying your deposit. This protects your investment against any unforeseen events that may prevent you from being able to travel (eg illness)\, as well as travel & dive insurance to cover you whilst you are away. I don’t recommend booking a holiday you think you might not go on! All payments are non refundable in the event of your cancellation.”
