Alex Mustard classic summer Red Sea Workshop has a must-do status amongst many underwater photographers. It is a week of intensive underwater photography in the Red Sea taking in world class ship wrecks, vibrant Red Sea reefs and schools of fish in the Ras Mohammed Marine Park, all with expert tutorage and photo insight from Alex. In 2018 Alex is offering workshops in both June/July and September.

Alex says “I run this trip every year not only because it is a great location for teaching underwater photography, but because the diving is so good, so diverse that even when you go as often as me you are still itching to get in and shoot it all. I decided to add a September date in 2018 to give us the chance to shoot the Red Sea in late summer, when the water is at its warmest.” You can read a detailed overview of Alex’s Red Sea Workshops here.

The 2018 edition of the workshop will be once again on the excellent MY Whirlwind, the perfect liveaboard for a productive photographic safari.  The plan for my Red Sea workshops is broadly the same each time, but it always varies with conditions and how the sites are performing photographically – the classic combination is wrecks, reefs and schools. Alex says “the plan for September will also depend on what is hot, but the intention is to focus slightly more on reefs than the June workshop, with a focus on the Gulf of Aqaba area, shooting sites like Anemone City, Jackfish Alley, Ras Umm Sid and Jackson Reef in Tiran – spending slightly less time at Ras Mohammed and on the wrecks. Although, I stress that this will depend on which sites are producing. The teaching on the workshop is focused on how to produce excellent images of the subjects that you are focused on.
